TRIO, QUARTET, BIG BAND!
It’s been a while since the last time I posted some tracks from my musical adventures.
I’m gonna start with a performance of a trio gig from November 20th 2023 with Tom Oren and Adam Arruda:
“Linear Thought” is something I wrote this summer specifically for piano trio and this is the first time trying it out. It took me a while to complete and I don’t think it has a very strong melody but at the same time I think it’s a honest representation of what I was looking for.
“In Time” is a ballad that Stevie Wonder improvised during an interview, it was never recorded officially and unfortunately the interview is cut so the part that I was able to transcribe is only partial. Nonetheless it has a beautiful melody.
On December 18th 2023 we played a really fun gig with my usual quartet with Ben Solomon, Adam Arruda and Chris McCarthy. I thought that some of the tunes that we have been working on are improving and everyone is finding their own way through the songs.
Here’s an arrangement of one of my favorite tunes to play called “Nem Um Talvez”, written by Hermeto Pascoal.
Last but not least we finally started this new project in collaboration with the Ornithology Jazz Club called the “Ornithology Big Band”. On January 2nd we had our first gig.
It was a lot of work putting together the music and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my friend Yonatan Guedj who helped me putting together the band and the arrangements.
Our next gig will be on March 5th at Ornithology Jazz Club and that means that this month I’ll be spending many hours in front of my laptop fixing and writing new arrangements.
Here’s “The Phantom”, a tune I wrote ten years ago that is still fun to play. This one features our pianist Dabin Ryu, Eviatar Slivnik on Drums, Ben Solomon on Tenor Sax, Daniel Sky on Trumpet and Adam Frumkin on Bari Sax.
