Friday, March 18th
After a long period filled with a lot of work, yesterday I did one of those things that I love the most and used to do all the time back when I just moved to New York. I played two sessions with some of the best musicians I could ask for, and then I went to hear the genius Bill Stewart at the Village Vanguard.
I left my place around noon to go to play with my friends Panas Athanatos on guitar, Spike Wilner on piano and Eviatar Slivnik on drums.
It’s always great to play with these guys that know so many tunes. Exciting to see how Eviatar and I find different ways to support the musicians we are playing with, after all the projects and years we’ve worked together. We started the session as a trio with Spike playing Sonny Clark’s “Something Special” and once Panas joined us we kept the fire going with so many other great tunes.

Bittersweet
Right after the session we had lunch together at Wilfie & Nell where I ate the most filling burger of my life (no joke). After, I went straight to Isaac Wilson’s place where we played some trio with Karl Henrik, a great drummer from Sweden. We played some original music by me and Karl, and Isaac pulled out two great tunes, “ To Wisdom The Prize” by Larry Willis and Ahmad Jamal arrangement of “ I Love Music”.

Fading into No-Existence
It’s on days like this that I feel very grateful to be in this city, surrounded by people that are trying to say something through their music. Sharpening, day by day every concept, every idea that makes them unique.
Thank you for reading and listening,
GC.
