Bill Charlap Trio Live at the Village Vanguard 09/22/21

Yesterday I went to see the great Bill Charlap Trio featuring Peter Washington on Bass and Kenny Washington on Drums.

From the very first note Peter Washington sound was what caught my attention because of his great taste, intonation and choice of notes.

I would like for every bassist that lives outside NYC to check as many records as possible where P.Wash is playing. As Rodney Green once said to me “Peter Washington is the most soulful bass player, he always sounds like he’s playing with Roberta Flack”. It's true, and if you don’t believe me I suggest you to check Andy Bey's record “Ain't Necessarily So” or Bill Charlap Trio’s“Stardust”, just to name two even though the list goes on and on.

Mr.Washington solo skills where featured on the good old classic “Out Of Nowhere” (J.Green/R.Heyman), where he took three choruses and developed simple motives into a deep artistic statement. As a listener and as a musician I felt Music was put at the first place before any kind of instrumental show off or virtuosity.
